Medium shot
This example of a medium shot, taken from the film 'The notebook', clearly shows the characters body language and introduces the audience to the characters relationship. Conventially a medium shot features two or more people from the waste upwards. This shot shows the passion and love both characters feel towards on another. The shot shows that the characters share a happy and loving relationship. The audience can see that the couple are passionate towards one another by the way the woman has her legs wrapped around the mans waist and the way she holds tightly to his kneck. It emphasises the extreme emotion she feels towards the man. The shot is then emphasised more by the way the man holds the woman. This shots makes the audience feel as though they are 'spying' on the couple and adds to the tension.
In this second example of a medium shot the audience can clearly see the relationship between the two characters. The shot shows the passion between the couple from body language and facial features of the two people. The way that the man is holding the womans chin and holding the womans waist creates tention and emphasises the extreme emotion the couple feel towards each other. The weather and setting also add to the tention in this shot as it shows that the couple feelings are that strong that they can't wait to get inside out of the rain.
Extreme long shot
Both these shots, taken from the film 'The Notebook', are examples of extreme long shots. Extreme long shots usually feature a lot of background setting, which is usually overwhelming to the characters featured in the shot. As well as this extreme long shots usually make the characters featured in the shots look extremely small, this usually emphasises the overwhelming surroundings. In the first shot the characters are made to look tiny compared to the setting. This is vital to the story line and the naritive of the story, also it shows that the two characters are comfortable together alone showing there comfortable relationship.
In the second extreme long shot the character is made to seem even smaller in the enviroment in which he is in. The main character is actually hanging from the top of the ferris wheel where another character unbuttoned his trousers (He is unable to pull up his trousers), the shot shows how big his surroundings are emphasising the hight he would fall if he was to fall. It shows that he is how embarrasing the moment is for the main character.
